The Luminous Mysteries or Mysteries of Light
These mysteries, which Pope John Paul II introduced in 2002,
focus on the public ministry of Jesus.
The First Luminous Mystery: The Baptism of Jesus
In this mystery, the voice of God announces that Jesus is "My Beloved Son".
The Second Luminous Mystery: The Wedding at Cana Jesus is persuaded to turn water into wine.
The Third Luminous Mystery: The Proclamation of the Kingdom In this Mystery, Jesus gives us the
Beatitudes, teaches us to pray and calls the faithful to join Him in heaven.
The Fourth Luminous Mystery: The Transfiguration On a secluded mountain, Jesus is transformed into
the luminous Son of God for the disciples to witness.
The Fifth Luminous Mystery: The Institution of the Eucharist
At the Last Supper, Jesus turns bread and wine into His Body and Blood.
These Mysteries call to mind five of the miracles that occurred during the public life of Jesus.
In all five mysteries, a Blessed Sacrament is established or reaffirmed.
In Baptism, Jesus honors the wishes of His almighty Father.
At the wedding, Jesus honors the wishes of His Mother and sanctifies matrimony.
At the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus makes a confirmation of His kingdom to all.
On His Transfiguration, Jesus reveals His true form, proclaiming eternal life beyond earthly death.
At the Last Supper, Jesus teaches the apostles how to remember and honor Him through the Eucharist. |
