Blue sodalite is often mistaken for lapis lazuli but is identifiable for its lack of sulfur. Mined in Namibia, Brazil and Canada, it was used in many of their carvings and jewelry and is considered to be a highly prized gem. In Egypt, it was sometimes referred to as the Heaven stone because it resembled the skies of morning and evening so vividly. Blue sodalite is favored for its rich blue, white and rare yellowish color variations and its comparative rarity.
