Concluding Prayer to Saint Cecilia (Optional)
O glorious saint, who chose to die
instead of denying your King.
We pray you please to help us
as His fair praise we sing!
We lift our hearts in joyous song
to honor Him this way,
And while we sing, remembering,
to sing is to doubly pray.
At once in our hearts and in our tongues
we offer double prayer
Sent heavenward on winged notes
to praise God dwelling there.
While in our hearts and tongues we try
with song to praise God twice,
We ask dear saint, to help us
be united close to Christ!

Saint Cecilia by John Waterhouse (1895)
Patroness of music, singers and musicians

Saint Cecilia was martyred around 230 A.D.
for refusal to renounce her Christian faith.
Other historical accounts place her death
in Sicily about 176 A.D.
Saint Cecilia claimed to have a guardian angel,
and angels came to place song in her heart.
She is credited for "giving voice"
to the music of the church.
During the middle ages, there were reputed
to be 5 Canonical masses in her name.

Blessed Cecilia, appear in visions
To all musicians, appear and inspire:
Translated Daughter, come down and startle
composing mortals with immortal fire.
